Caribbean children are spending more of their lives online. The risks they face: cyberbullying, grooming, sextortion, exploitation, and exposure to harmful content, are real, growing, and often invisible to the adults around them.
The systems meant to protect them (education, law, safeguarding, policy, enforcement) don't always keep pace. The Protecht Project starts from a simple conviction: keeping children safer online requires building better systems, not only teaching better habits.
We bring together youth voice, research, education, law, data protection, and public policy because online safety is an ecosystem issue. We began in Barbados. Our ambition is the wider Caribbean.
Safer digital childhoods require safer systems, not only safer individual behaviour.

Protecht approaches child online safety as an evidence problem. We are building a research base that documents the digital experiences of Caribbean children, maps the institutions and systems around them, and identifies the gaps between what exists and what is needed.
Our work asks what is actually happening for young people here, what the systems around them can and cannot do, and what it would take to change that. We draw on Caribbean-specific data, not imported frameworks, to understand the lived realities of children in this region.
